Howrah: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee flagged off six express and passenger trains from here on Sunday. The trains include: Kolkata-Ajmer Express, Sealdah-Lalgola MEMU Passenger, Sealdah-Jangipur Road DEMU Passenger, Shalimar-Patna Duronto Express (tri-weekly), Howrah-Mysore Weekly Express and Santaragajhi-Mangalore Weekly Express.

Moreover, the frequency of Sealdah-New Delhi Duronto Express has also been increased. The Chief Minister also announced new trains to be introduced in the near future which include Sealdah-Kalyani Local, Sealdah-Bangaon Thakurnagar Local, Shalimar-Sikanderabad Weekly Express, Shalimar-Udaipur Weekly Express, Santragachi-Huzur Sahib Nanded Weekly Express, Jhargram-Purulia MEMU Passenger and Jhargram-Midnapore MEMU Express.

Also, the Howrah-Baripada Local has been extended upto Gudap.

Mamata Banerjee said on the occasion, “I have fulfilled all my promises made during my tenure as Railway Minister.”

Praising the Chief Minister, Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi said, “Our leader is true to her words and has proved this by introducing these new trains.”

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister of State for Shipping Mukul Roy said, “Our leader has achieved the impossible. No one had imagined that an additional Metro zone will come up with its headquarters in Kolkata. When the Chief Minister had introduced the Duronto Express, the opposition had opposed it strongly but now it is the most desired train for the commuters as it runs faster than the Rajdhani at comparatively lower fares.”
