Chandigarh: Haryana Police has arrested a Madhya Pradesh resident for allegedly kidnapping a minor from Kohand village in district Karnal in Chandigarh and seeking ransom for his release.
A police spokesman said on Friday that the accused Hira Lal alias Hira of Mamathkhera in district Mandsaur of MP, was arrested on Thursday and was produced in the court, which granted him remand for two days.
He said that a woman Munni Devi, a resident of Shakti Nagar of district Kaithal had gone to her parents place at Kohand in district Karnal along with her three children.
It was on January 8 that the children were playing outside the house, but she found that one of her children missing. After looking for him, a report was lodged with the police the same day.
The family got a ransom call the next day from the accused saying that he has kidnapped the two-and-half year old minor and they should pay a ransom of Rs three lakh, the spokesman said. He had also threatened to kill the child if the ransom was not paid.
Haryana Police constituted a team which, arrested him from his native town and rescued the child.
