Barrackpore (West Bengal): West Bengal Police on Thursday nabbed Shailen Biswas aka Pradeep, wanted in 24 murder cases in Bagda block in North 24 Paraganas district while he was attempting another murder.

The accused was sentenced to 10-year jail term in each of the two murder cases by a Bangladeshi court for committing the crime in the country. He fled from Bangladesh to West Bengal’s Bagda area and had been running his gang in both the countries.

In January 2010, Shailen killed a person named Subhash Biswas, a resident of Ramchandrapur under Bagda Police station.

“Shailen had got bail in Subhash murder case and he was planning to kill one of the main witnesses Ranjit Mandal in connection with the case before being apprehended by the Police,” said Samir Das, Secretary Bar Association, Bangaon Court.

Acting on a tip-off, Police arrested Shailen and produced in the Court where he was again remanded in 14-day judicial custody.

Police said that Shailen was also involved in the abduction of the son of a Bangladesh MP.

As per the police sources, a native of Salua-Rangpur village in Khulna district, Shailen was indulged in 23 murder cases besides cases of snatching and robbery.

Police also recovered an American pistol and eight rounds of cartridges from his possession.
