New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party is yet to reveal her cards on the Presidential candidature, senior party leader Maneka Gandhi after meeting with Pranab Mukherjee on Monday said that Pranab Mukherjee should be a consensus candidate.

After meeting Mukherjee, Aonla MP Maneka Gandhi described Pranab Mukherjee as an "excellent candidate" for the post and made a strong pitch for a consensus on him.

"Pranab Mukherjee is an excellent candidate," Gandhi, a former Union Minister, told reporters after a meeting with the Finance Minister and UPA's nominee for the July 19 Presidential elections.

She said the election of the President should be done by consensus.

BJP is yet to decide its stand on Mukherjee's candidature and an influential section in the party favours a contest in the Presidential elections.

This is not the first time that Maneka Gandhi is favouring Pranab’s candidature. Earlier also while supporting UPA’s nominee for the presidential poll she said that the country needed a seasoned politician like Pranab Mukherjee as President.
