Pandey is currently a member of Bihar legislative council. However, the current state BJP President Dr C P Thakur is reported to be unhappy by this decision therefore he has been offered a much more important role from the central leadership. But even then Thakur is under enormous pressure as his supporters want him to contest elections.
Thakur met the senior party leaders in New Delhi on Wednesday and conveyed his intensions to the central leadership.
It has been made clear that the party's central leadership is in favour of handing the reins of Bihar to Mangal Pandey.
It is reported that Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Shushil Kumar Modi has also given nod to Pandey’s name as the next state president.
BJP has already framed party election program for state president’s election. According to the program, the nominations for poll will be filed on Thursday and election for the same will take place on Friday.
Meanwhile, Suresh Rungta, the state election officer said that if necessary, election will be held during the state committee meeting.
