New Delhi: Successor to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Managing Director E Sreedharan has been decided. A three-member selection committee has finalised DMRC Director (Works) Mangu Singh for the MD’s post and the file has been forwarded to Union Urban Development Ministry, sources said.

Among the other shortlisted candidates for the post were Vipin Jha, Sudhir Mittal, RK Gupta and Vijay Anand, all from Indian Railways.

According to official sources, the selection committee comprising Delhi Chief Secretary, Secretary of Union Urban Development Ministry and present DMRC MD E Sreedharan decided on Singh’s name as new metro man.

Singh had started his career as civil engineer. He played a crucial role in Kolkata’s metro project and was instrumental in construction of Phase 1 and 2 of Delhi metro.

He is also credited for the construction of Airport Express Line. Apart from this, Singh is a consultant for metro projects in other cities across the country.

The new MD will handle the post for five years and his tenure will start from January 2012. It should be noted that Sreedharan’s tenure will expire on December 31, 2011.
