Patna: The manufacturing sector will be the next engine of Bihar growth story as the state government will soon put in place a single window system to speed up industrial projects in the state, an official said.

"The manufacturing sector will most definitely emerge as the next engine of growth story in Bihar and contribute significantly to the double digit growth rate," the Principal Secretary (Industries) Naveen Verma told reporters after the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's monthly deliberations with the industrialists.

The manufacturing sector contributes 16 percent of the growth rate of Bihar at present which has been driven primarily by construction, public investment and trade and commerce, he said.

Stating that the state government was committed to push through reform measures for increased industrial activities, Verma said that a single window system to clear proposals for industrial projects will be in place in a month.

Besides, a nodal officer has been appointed in all departments related to industries to expeditiously clear the proposals related to the concerned departments, the Principal Secretary (Industries) said.

Another proposal was under consideration under which a proposal for industrial project worth Rs 50 crores will be decided by the Chief Minister, while those proposals above this amount will be approved by the cabinet, Verma said.

With agriculture being the primary economic activity in Bihar, the state government would like the food processing sector to grow rapidly and the Chief Minister stressed as much at the meeting with the industrialists, he said.

There were large number of rice and flour mills, biscuit factories, vegetable and fruit processing units functioning in Bihar with investment worth Rs 776 crores, Verma said and the numbers could grow further amid various incentives, including subsidy, in place to promote food processing sector.

The Industries Minister Renu Kumari Kushwaha, who was present at the Chief Minister's interaction with the enterpreneurs, said that the state government will positively consider demands like commercial taxes rationalization on industrial products, land and other facilities by the interested investors.
