Thane: In order to remove the fear of 'numbers' from the minds of young students, a drama competition incorporating mathematical concepts will be held in Thane from today. The students have been asked the script plays around mathematical concepts, with an aim to make them learn the subject easily and shun the fear for it, the officials  fromtwo city-based institutions said here today.

The way in which some of Sherlock Holmes' stories have solutions based on mathematical concepts and 'Treasure Find' story is also based on calculations, the children have been asked to select similar topics and weave plays around them, NGO Jignyasa director Surendra Dighe said. This will not only make learning mathematics interesting, but also bring the students those who fear it, closer to the subject, he added.

Students from about 100 schools and colleges from Thane and surrounding areas are expected to participate in the three-day mathematics festival, where some noted mathematicians would discuss concepts and the subject with children.
