Bulandshahar: A dalit woman on Sunday died in Bulandshaar after she was not allowed by security officials to reach a hospital during the tour of Chief Minister Mayawati to Western Uttar Pradesh district.

Prem Chand, husband of victim Gita Balimiki, tried his best to take her to the hospital for treatment but he failed owing to heavy security arrangements in the wake of the CM’s visit to Bulandshahar.

Gita died on the road, when Bulandshahar was reverberating with slogan-shouting by Bahujan Samajwadi Party workers, as Mayawati was on her way to take stock of the situation in the hospitals here.

Gita, 51, was suffering from acute headache.  Prem Chand pleaded with the security personnel who had blocked the road leading to the hospital, but to no avail. According to the relatives of the woman, who belonged to Morni village, alleged that security officials did not budge.

District Collector Shashibhusan said, “There was no direction for stopping traffic. Traffic personnel were told to divert the traffic. It is a tragic incident and proper action will be taken against accused.”
