Lucknow: With the upcoming Assembly polls weighing heavily on her mind, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has requested the Centre to take steps for uplift of minorities, especially Muslims, an official spokesman said on Wednesday.
"The Chief Minister wrote a letter to the Prime Minister on September 14 requesting that for uplift of minorities, especially Muslims, provision of reservation on the basis of population ratio should be considered," the spokesman said.
The Prime Minister had replied to the Chief Minister's letter on October 24 following which Mayawati has written another letter on November 24, the spokesman said.    

In her letter, Mayawati said the state government was sensitive and committed to the welfare of minorities.
