Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati summoned Energy Minister Ramveer Upadhyaya and asked for a detailed report about his alleged involvement in threatening state Lokayukta Justice N K Mehrotra of getting him sacked in case he failed to drop cases against the Minister.

Sources said the Chief Minister had condemned the issue and asked the Minister to apologise the Lokayukta for his misdemeanor. Following Mayawati’s wrath, Upadhyaya is likely to meet the Lokayukta here on Monday.

Upadhyaya, while addressing a public meeting in Hathras on Friday evening, had made a reference to BJP national general secretary Kirit Somaiya's complaint against him with the Lokayukta, and said that nothing was found. He further launched a scathing attack on the state Lokayukta and threatened to get him removed by claiming that he had a better understanding of law than the judge.

Notably, Mayawati under her clean-up operation to refurbish the party’s image ahead of the polls had sacked 15 ministers who are facing Lokayukta probe following corruption charges against them.
