New Delhi: The announcement of candidates’ list by the Congress for the MCD polls came as surprise for many party workers.  The names of kith and kin of the Congress MLAs, who left no stone unturned to get party tickets ensured for their wards, were not mentioned in the lists. The Congress showed kindness towards those councillors whose seats have been reserved for women during the delimitation drive.

In last few days, MLAs lobbied hard to get tickets secured for their relatives. Kondli MLA and Deputy Speaker of Delhi Assembly Amrish Singh Gautam pitched party ticket for his brother whereas former minister Mangatram Singhal and MLA Jai Kishan tried hard to get their sons fielded on Congress ticket. Ironically, names of their kin are missing from the lists.

Meanwhile, the party high command has decided to field Sheel Bandhu, daughter-in-law of former minister Deepchand Bandhu fromAshok Vihar, Kapil Nagar, son of party leader Nathu Ram Nagar from Kamla Nagar and Prerna Singh wife of sitting councillor from Inderlok, Tarun Singh.

Others in the list are Harsh Sharma, husband of Kashmiri Gate councillor Uma Sharma and Seema Tahira sister of party leader from Sitaram ward Mahmood Ziya. West Delhi MP Mahabal Mishra managed to get party ticket ensured for his sister-in-law Vimala Devi. His family member Tilottama Chaudhary is already sitting councillor from Dabri. The Congress fielded Nootan Kochhar wife of the party spokesperson Jitendra Kochhar from Hauzrani ward.

More so, the Congress has fielded several women candidates from general seats. The Congress move irked the party workers.
