New Delhi: In an effort to end the thriving business of illegal parking in the national capital, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has invited tenders for 108 parking lots in eight zones here.
The contracts for parking slots will be awarded for two years on July 12. The meetings of Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) in the past few weeks witnessed heated deliberations on the issue of the vehicle parking system in New Delhi.
A committee led by Bhure Lal had directed the MCD to take stringent steps to bring about a transparency in the parking system.
Additional Secretary Vinay Kumar the officiating in-charge of Remunerative Project Cell invited tenders for 108 parking lots through internet on Friday.
On April 23, EPCA for the first time asked MCD to follow NDMC’s arrangements for parking slips through machines at its few sites.
According to EPCA, this will end the business of illegal parking which is run by officials from traffic police and local agencies.
The EPCA authorities further maintained, the process would also stop highhandedness of attendants who charge unreasonable amount at the parking lots.
Keeping this in view, MCD will award contracts to those agencies that will also provide the facility of parking slips through machines.
It is an open fact that parking mafia is dominant at MCD parking sites. Leaders at the helm of the civic agency want to complete the tender process through zones.
Monitoring Committee had provided suggestions to MCD for improving the parking facilities and thus the officials made the entire tender process online.
