New Delhi: Delhi government along with Delhi state election commission is planning to conduct Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections in first week of April as the tenure of the present MCD members will end on April 20 next year.

The Delhi government is waiting for the President’s nod for trifurcation of the MCD. The ruling dispensation in the state has already got the approval from the Home Ministry for the division of MCD.

The Delhi State Election Commission is expected to present a proposal regarding the reservation of 50 per cent of the total Municipal wards for women after getting the President's approval.

CM Sheila Dikshit on Friday had a meeting with Urban Development Minister AK Walia, Delhi’s Chief Secretary PK Triphati, senior officials and the Delhi Election Commissioner Rakesh Mehta to discuss MCD trifurcation.
