New Delhi: Concerned over encroachment of Yamuna river-bed, MCD Works Committee on Monday urged the Delhi government to direct its departments to stop illegal constructions there.

MCD Works Committee Chairman Jagdish Mamgain said it was a matter of concern that illegal encroachment and constructions are happening on the Yamuna river-bed.

"Starting from Noida to Delhi and onwards along the bed, a large number of buildings including pucca buildings are on the verge of construction," he said.

Urging Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to direct the city government's agencies to stop illegal activities on the Yamuna river bed immediately, he said failure to do so would endanger the life of Delhiites in future.

“Flood department should conduct a survey about the status of river Yamuna and its bed. No ongoing construction should be allowed at least up to danger area. The DND road may be taken on priority as maximum illegal activities are undergoing on it," Mamgain said.
