New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor Tajendra Khanna has finally issued the notification for the trifurcation of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on January 13.

The Election Commissioner of Delhi has convened meeting of all the national parties on January 18. The decision on the reserved seats for women and date of elections are scheduled for final decision in the meeting.

However, Elections to the newly constituted corporations are likely to be held in the first week of April.

Delhi election commissioner Rakesh Mehta informed that the BJP, the Congress, the BSP, the CPI (M) and the NCP have been called for the All-party meet. At least four members from each party are expected to huddle together to deliberate on various issues.

He said that the reservations for the women including the SC/ ST will be extensively discussed.

Notably, after the trifurcation of the MCD, North and South Delhi regions were allotted 104 seats each while the East Delhi Municipal Corporation received 64 seats.

While pitching for holding elections in the first week of April, Mehta argued that the formation of new corporations must be completed before April 20.
