New Delhi: Medical Council of India secretary Dr Sangeeta Sharma and former director of Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) are under CBI scanner for the alleged irregularities in installation of MRI facilities at IHBAS from 2005 to 2008.

CBI Joint Director H C Awasthy has written to the Union Health Secretary K Chandramouli seeking permission to initiate investigations in this regard.

It has been alleged that the deals involving installation of MRI facilities caused a loss of Rs 25 lakh to the institute.

Apart from this, there were complaints of irregularities in conferencing facilities with audio and visual equipment as they were bought on highly exorbitant rates in blatant disregard of rules and directives.

CBI has also highlighted the decision of the officials about the removal of clause of providing 20 percent free MRI facilities to BPL patients.
