Bhopal: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has given its nod to Indore-based private medical college to start super specialty DM (Reproductive Medicine) course in Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences and Post Graduate Institute (SAIMS).

SAIMS is the first private medical college to offer this course, which will help students in doing this and other specialised courses in Madhya Pradesh only and in the process also put a check on the brain drain from the state, the institute Chairman, Dr Vinod Bhandari said in a release here on Wednesday.

The permission to launch DM (Reproductive Medicine) course was given by the MCI after an inspection of the available facilities and infrastructure at SAIMS by a team led by All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Professor Dr Alka Kripalani.

Reproductive Medicine is that branch of medical science that helps in curing infertility among women and men and all issues related to reproduction.

The institute also offers specialisation in the field of gastroenterology, neurology, pediatrics surgery and oncology.

Earlier students going outside the state for these courses used to settle in that city only after completion of the course but now they have an option to do the same from their own state/city and thus it will also help in checking brain drain from the state, it said.
