New Delhi: Toeing the lines of other cities, Delhi will also witness cleaning of main roads and public places in night. Talks in this regard were going on for the last many years.

After getting nod from the Ministry for Environment and Forests, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to clean the 900 km roads under its jurisdiction during night instead of the day time.

Mechanical sweeper machines will help in sweeping the roads broader than 60 foot in the night starting from Friday.

In 2000, the High Court had directed to get roads cleaned in night to reduce the pollution level during the day time.

Following the directions, the MCD had kicked off an ambitious project which has been cleared now .

As many as 32 mechanical sweeping machines were pressed into action , which were inaugurated by state BJP president Vijendra Gupta in Pusa Road, Karol Bagh.

Delhi Mayor Rajni Abbi said that these machines had the capacity to carry five cubic metres of dust.

“These machines will help in cleaning the city roads and make them dust free. They will sweep the roads during the night,” said Abbi.
