The upcoming Bollywood movie 'Airlift' is based on a true incident where Akshay Kumar is playing the role of Ranjit Katyal.

The story is about Indians who were stranded in Kuwait, during the 1990 Iran Kuwait War, pleading the Indian Embassy to take them home.

As the Indian government didn’t want to face the international pressure, it was Ranjit Katyal, one of the most influential businessmen who saw himself as a Kuwaiti, came as rescue.

Apart from his wealth, Ranjit has some powerful contacts in the government which helped India in the evacuation as he was the only hope in the operations.

With the help of Ranjit Katiyal, the Indian government airlifted over 1,70,000 Indians from Kuwait, using 488 flights in just 59 days.

Being the largest and most successful evacuation ever attempted by any country in the world, India entered the Guinness Book of World Records.

Also, Air India entered the Guinness Book of World Records for being a civil airline that helped the authorities evacuate the maximum number of people.

This movie which takes you back to Saddam Hussein and Gulf War is a tribute to Indian forces engaged in this mission.

Directed by Raja Menon, 'Airlift' also stars Nimrat Kaur and it is scheduled to hit the theatres on January 22.
