Srinagar: Opposition People's Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday stressed on the need of confidence-building measures for permanent and binding solution of Kahmir issue.

"All sections of the society must to be taken into confidence before starting the dialogue process in this context," Mehbooba said while interacting with the Kashmir Committee headed by senior BJP leader and noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani.

Mehbooba said it is important to tackle both the external and internal complexities of the issue in order to restore sustainable peace in this region.

"While the external dimension of the Kashmir issue is to be taken care of by India and Pakistan bilaterally, while on the internal front, measures have to be taken to ensure political and economic empowerment of the people in all the regions and sub-regions of the state," she added.

Mehbooba also stressed on the need of evolving consensus on some key issues like utilisation of natural resources. “The natural resources of the state have the capacity to make the state economically self-sufficient,” she added.

She reiterated her party stand on the need of taking some reconciliatory measures including the annulment of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and reduction in troops deployed for internal security in Kashmir.
