New Delhi: Amidst the political debate over the continuation of treatment of former Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi in Apollo Hospital, the Lok Sabha Secretariat may take decision in his favour on humanitarian grounds.

Concerned over the health of the former Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said, “Dasmunshi must not face any form of trouble that adds on in deteriorating his health.” Sources said, Kumar has asked the Lok Sabha Secretariat to reconsider his case.

It is worth mentioning that Dasmunshi has been hospitalized at Apollo Hospital in Delhi since 2008.

According to the hospital authorities, he has been in a vegetative state for the past three years and has shown no signs of recovery since he suffered a massive cardiac arrest. Moreover, they have suggested discharging him.

However, his family was not happy with the suggestion. His wife and Raiganj MP Deepa Dasmunshi said it was important for him to stay in the hospital as there are higher risks of infections in open areas.

However, she refused to comment on the dues of Apollo Hospital.

The controversy stirred after the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) issued a note mentioning the former Minister not eligible for availing medical treatment at government’s expenses.

It is noteworthy that Dasmunshi was conferred with Outstanding Parliamentary Award in March this year.
