New Delhi: In a bid to strengthen people-to-people interaction between India and Pakistan, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will be visiting Islamabad for five days starting from February 21.

This would be her first ever official visit to Pakistan in the capacity of Speaker.

Interestingly, both India and Pakistan currently have women speakers in their Lower House.

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani during his March 2011 visit to India had invited Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chief Sonia Gandhi and Meira Kumar.

Earlier in 2010, National Assembly Speaker Fahmida Mirza had visited India and met Kumar on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association meet. Not only this, Mirza and Kumar had also met during Commonwealth Parliamentary Association meet in Trinidad and Tobago.

Last year, a delegation of Indian Parliamentarians had visited Islamabad on a goodwill mission.
