"The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 46 degrees Celsius," said an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official.

Humidity at 8:30 am was 42 percent.

Friday was hottest day of June in the national capital in the last five years as the maximum temperature settled down at 45 degrees Celsius, five notches above the season's average.

The minimum temperature was recorded a notch above the season's average at 29.4 degrees Celsius.

North India has been reeling under intense heat wave since the past few days with mercury shooting beyond 48 degrees Celsius in few places in the region.
