New Delhi: In a move to make metro ride hassle free, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has made thrust on smart card for commuters who have to brave serpentine queue to get tickets.

To promote the use of smart card for travelling, the DMRC is going to organize Smart Card Week from May 9. During the ‘smart card week’ celebration, a counter will be set up at those stations where more than 35,000 travellers ride Metro a day in order to spread awareness about the benefit of the card. Twenty such Metro stations have been selected for this purpose.

At present only 60 percent people use Smart Card in Delhi. According to Metro spokesman Anuj Dayal, “People can save a lot of time by using smart cards just as in China and Hong Kong where 100 percent metro travellers use the card.”

“By Using Metro Smart Card, people can avoid long lines to get tokens. It has been more than 100 months of Metro service in Delhi, but people are still unaware of smart card,” Dayal said.
