According to the reports, the passengers were left stranded for at least 40 minutes. As the Metro coaches were non-AC, several passengers fell sick.
The commuters complained that there was no announcement for nearly 40 minutes. At one point even lights and fans were not working, commuters said.
Mahapatra said that all the passengers were evacuated from both sides of the train by ladders which went down to the tracks.
Normal services were disrupted since then.
The railway authorities ran truncated services from Dum Dum to Central on one side and Mahanayak Uttamkumar (Tollygunge) to Kavi Subhas (New Garia) on the other.
