Windows 7 customers will receive the update automatically in the coming weeks, starting with those already running the IE11 Developer and Release Previews.

“IE11 on Windows 7 improves performance across the board with faster page loading, faster interactivity and faster JavaScript performance, while reducing CPU usage and improving battery life on mobile PCs,” Microsoft said announcing the release on a blog post.

IE11 is expected to make common browsing activities faster, with improved algorithms for faster access to frequent sites, and enhanced in-form editing controls to preserve formatting from Office and other apps.

Microsoft claims that IE11 has improved JavaScript performance, with the new Chakra JIT compiler and more efficient garbage collection. According to the company, IE11 reduces CPU usage, thereby improving battery life on mobile PCs.

The company said that IE11 will support the latest standards for closed captioning, bandwidth-optimized streaming and rights management.
