BlackBerry saw a decline in market share over the past year from 5.2 percent in the second quarter of 2012, to 2.7 percent in the second quarter of this year. Microsoft on the other hand has increased its market share from 2.6 percent to 3.3 percent.

According to Gartner, Microsoft’s 3.3 percent market share puts it in the smartphone race, behind Android and Apple. Android continued to top world smartphones sales at 79 percent extending its market share from 64.2 percent in 2012, whereas Apple that powers iPhones came in second at 14.2 percent down from 18.8 percent a year ago.
