Mumbai: Despite the strong opposition by the prosecution, Mid Day journalist Tarakant Dwivedi alias Akela was granted bail by a local court on Saturday. Annoyed over a report of Akela published around a year back on the plight of RPF arsenal at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus which had been a target of terrorist attack on 26/11, Mumbai police had arrested him on Tuesday.

Akela was called to the police station but was later arrested for further interrogation under the charges of Official Secret Act.
After producing Akela in the court, he was admitted St. George Hospital in wake of his deteriorating health. On Saturday, the court released him on a personal bond of Rs 10,000.

His arrest had created a furore in the media circles. The Editors’ Guild had registered a protest terming it to be a gag on the freedom of speech and expression.
