West Midnapore: Just ahead of the Republic Day, a major Maoist attack to blow up the Kalaikunda police station was thwarted by the police. Acting on a tip off, the police, on Friday, raided a Maoist shelter in Kaliakunda and seized some documents which include the blueprint of the attack.

In the wake of senior cops being on leave, police officials have refrained from giving any statement regarding the incident.

According to sources, the Kharagpur police received information about a meeting being organized by the Maoists near Kaliakunda to attack the police station. Acting swiftly on the tip off, the police immediately raided the place and arrested some suspected Maoists. Soon after the incident a high alert was sounded in the region.

Kharagpur SDPO Deepak Sarkar and additional SP Kalyan Mukherjii have denied commenting on the incident.
