No damage to civil or service property has been reported. The MiG-21 aircraft had taken off from Uttarlai airbase near Barmer. After the accident, a court of inquiry has been ordered.

Recently, MiG-21 was in the news as Indian Air Force has reportedly decided to phase out three squadrons of the ageing MiG 21 and MiG 27 fighter jets this year.

MiG 21s and MiG 27s were bought from the erstwhile Soviet Union in the 60s and 70s.
