New Delhi: The humiliating incident involving Jeev Milkha Singh’s Coach Amritinder Singh, who was forced to remove his turban at the Milan airport, has infuriated the Sikh community.

Jeev’s father and renowned athlete Milkha Singh, popular as flying Sikh, is deeply hurt with the incident and has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to deal the issue earnestly.

“I would request the Prime Minister to take a serious note the matter. It is an insult to Sikh community and is a matter of great concern. Such racial profiling should not have happened,” Milkha said.

This is the second time that such a shameful has taken place, earlier in the US, a Sikh diplomat was also forced to remove his turban following a security check up.

Today it has happened in Italy, tomorrow it might happen somewhere else in the world and things will go worse for the Sikhs who are in rage at the moment. “I have been getting calls to raise my voice and I will definitely be writing to the PM expressing my fury,” he added.

On Wednesday, there was pandemonium in Parliament over the issue with MPs cutting across party lines condemning the episode.

Foreign Minister SM Krishna assured the Parliament that the government is taking up the issue with great care and has requested other nations to keep the religious and sensibilities of the Sikhs in mind.
