A meeting of the national executive of JD(U) was underway on another floor in the building when the fire broke out. The meeting, however, continued uninterrupted.

"The fire occurred on the second floor of Annexe building of Parliament following which fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the blaze was brought under control," a fire department official said.

The fire was noticed around 1.30 PM. It was doused by 1:55 PM. The fire was confined to room no 219 of the store section, fire official Sanjay Tomar said.

"No causalities or injuries were reported. It appears to be caused by a short circuit. However, the exact cause behind the fire is being investigated," stated the official. The fire led to heavy smoke which filled the corridor of the building.
