Gwalior: Soon after taking off from an airbase in Gwalior, a Mirage 2000 fighter plane of the IAF on Monday afternoon crashed near Baman Baas village in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district. This is the second crash involving a Mirage-2000 aircraft in past 10 days.

However, the pilots managed to eject safely.

Group Captain Amit Mahajan said, “Around 12 noon a Mirage 2000 fighter plane from Gwalior’s Maharajpur airbase took off. Due to some technical fault the fighter plane crashed. Both the pilots are safe. The fighter plane crashed at 12:45 hours.”

Earlier on February 24, a Mirage-2000 aircraft crashed near Bhind in Madhya Pradesh.

This is the third crash involving an IAF aircraft this year. A Kiran MK II trainer plane had crashed in Chennai on January 30.

A court of inquiry (CoI) has been ordered to ascertain the reason for the crash.
