Rishikesh: Two girls who went missing from Ranchi a week ago were found dead in an open tank near Chilla Power House here on Friday afternoon. Lakshman Jhoola Police recovered both the bodies along with a bag with two identity cards.

The girls were identified as Nikita Kumari (19), daughter of Ashok Kumar Shah, and Mausam Modi (18), daughter of Sharvan Kumar Modi, residents of Ranchi. Both the girls belong to families of rich businessman. Nikita was a student of Chinmaya Public School and Mausam of DPS Public School.

Soon after the body was recovered, Lakshan Jhoola police contacted Ranchi police. It came into light that missing complaint was filed in Ranchi on July 21 and 22. Parents of both the girls have been informed about the incidence.

Police also found a bill of a Hardiwar-based hotel which confirmed their stay on July 23 and 24.  Arun Mohan Joshi, SP, Pauri informed that the girls appear to have died three days back.
Prima facie, it appears that the girls died of suffocation due to drowning.

The local police said they did not get any evidence that would prove that the two girls were in a relationship, as claimed by the Ranchi Police.

The dead bodies have been sent to Haridwar for autopsy.
