Jaipur: With an aim to ensure overall empowerment of women in the society, Mission Poorna Shakti of National Women Empowerment Mission was launched in Pali district of Rajasthan.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Women and Child Development, Krishna Tirath who was present during the occasion, termed it as an ambitious project initiated by the Central Government.

The joint step taken by the Rajasthan and Central government under the flagship of National Women Empowerment Mission was chaired by Bina Kak, State Women and Child Development Minister.

Kak on the occasion said, “The Central Government’s step of having 30 percent reservations for women has facilitated the participation of women in society. Pali will be the first district in the country to lead this mission.”

The announcement of this mission was made by President Pratibha Patil on World Women’s Day on March 8, 2010, who had maintained that the Central government’s move would be a major step in increasing the empowerment of women in India.

The mission aims to increase the coordination between women of various government departments and ministries. The benefits of the mission would be made available to the ‘gram’ level workers through different centers.

These Poorna Shakti Centers would get directions from the Tehsil at the ‘gram’ level and from the state and the Centre at the district level for their functioning.

The mission also aims to increase awareness amongst women and support to them. The Poorna Shakti Centers would aspire to make every woman in the village able to recognise her health, education and legal rights.

The gathering was attended by at least 8000 women of the village along with many other women from different government ministries and departments.
