SP leader Naresh Agarwal and NCP leader Majid Memon stated that Juvenile Act should not be scrapped just like that, whereas BSP chief Mayawati said that the matter has to be discussed before taking any decision on the same.

Meanwhile, Delhi Gang-rape victim Nirbhaya's mother welcomed the statement. Such laws will be helpful in controlling crime, she added.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Barkha Shukla highly praised Meneka Gandhi and quoted that in Nirbhaya case too, the juvenile was the cruelest and therefore this change in the act would be a welcome step.

However, NFIW general secretary Annie Raja categorized Meneka’s statement as futile and said that criminalizing the whole juvenile category is a foolish idea.

NCW chief Mamta Sharma supported Maneka’s statement saying that nowadays children become mature at twelve years of age.

“I feel that the way children have exposed due to internet, they become matured after twelve years of age, with expert psychology they should try to find out why do children rape. Even in the Damini case, the cruelest person is going to be set free just because he is a juvenile. This is wrong,” said Sharma.
