Speaking at the meeting of Chief Ministers of eight Northeastern states convened by the Prime Minister in Delhi, Lal Thanhawla said that the problem arose due to slow progress of work by the Reliance and the Oil India Limited (OIL), as the company dismissed the earlier tender and floated a new one for exploration works in the southern part of the state.
The Chief Minister also emphasized on the need to upgrade the lone Lengpui airport in the city and pointed out towards the problems in the execution of the South Asian Road Development Project — North East Phase B. The road links Aizawl to Tuipang via Lawngtlai.
