New Delhi: Refusing to end the war of words between the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government over the alleged irregularities in the MNREGA funds in the state, Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh has again fired a salvo at Chief Minister Mayawati. (JPN/ Bureau)
In the response to Mayawati letter to Prime Minister and in connection to the Mayawati announcement of suspension of the corrupt Chief developmental Officer (CDO) of Gonda district, Ramesh said that if the CM would have been proactive in her deeds, then by now dozens of state officials would have been in jail.
By directly questioning her will and wish to eradicate corruption in the state, Ramesh held Mayawati responsible for mushrooming corruption in Uttar Pradesh. He in his letter has described the political reach of the Ministers and the issue of no action being taken on reports submitted around three to four years back.
Notably, the irregularities in the MNREGA fund was being investigated by state quality monitor officer appointed by the UP government itself.
Ramesh had earlier recommended for the CBI inquiry into the alleged scam in the MNREGA funds for which Mayawati just not gave a sarcastic reply but also wrote a letter to the PM in this regard. In response of this particular letter, Ramesh has written a second letter.
In his letter, Ramesh has included the investigation reports of seven districts including Balrampur, Gonda, Mahoba, Sonbhadra, Sant Kabir Nagar and Mirzapur where central funds have been allegedly misused.
Hitting directly on the CM, Ramesh in his letter has mentioned that on March 30, Mawayati in a press conference had spoken about her determination to fight corruption and had claimed to suspend CDO Raj Bahadur. However, according to Ramesh the suspension was not done with immediate effect.
He mentioned that even after holding many officials responsible for the irregularities in the funds, they were not punished. There was a major goof up in the purchase of Tin plates in Balrampur area. He also expressed surprise on the non responsiveness from the state government in the entire episode.
In his letter, the Union Minister has also described the incident where the Gram Pradhan of the only naxal-hit district has turned multi-millionaire over night.
