Mumbai: The Bihar Shatabdi Utsav celebration in Mumbai, slated for April 15 could face the wrath of Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). Speaking to Dainik Jagran, Vageesh Saraswat, MNS’s vice-president said, “We respect Nitish Kumar for his great work and taking Bihar ahead on the path of development but it is wrong to hurt the sentiments of Maharashtrians. We hope Nitish Kumar will understand this.”

A rally would be taken out at Somaiya Ground to mark the celebration. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is expected to attend the function organized by Bihar Foundation.

Notably, from last three years, the event (Bihar Utsav) was being organised at Shanmukhananda Hall auditorium. This will be the first time that Bihar Utsav will be organized in an open ground.

According to Saraswat, foundation day of any state should be celebrated in the respective states only. Raising questions on Nitish’s intention behind such a move, he said, “Instead of UP and Bihar, states like Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Maharashtra should celebrate their foundation day as these states were formed after lots of toil and pain of the local people.”

“If you (Nitish) are celebrating your state’s foundation day in New Delhi, there is logic behind it -- New Delhi is the national capital. But celebrating foundation day of Bihar in Mumbai is completely wrong,” he said.

According to MNS, organizing such events in different states is an attempt to weaken the federal structure.
