New Delhi: The tall claims of strict vigilance maintained by the jail authorities in Tihar went for a toss on Saturday when a high-end mobile phone was seized from a high-profile accused in the 2G spectrum scam lodged inside the jail.

The person found breaching the law was Rajiv Agarwal, Director of Kusegaon Food and Vegetable Private Ltd from whom guards of the Tamil Nadu Special police recovered a blackberry mobile phone device on Friday evening when he returned to the jail after attending a court hearing.

The Tihar jail administration has confirmed the seizure report and the authorities have already initiated action against Agarwal. According to sources, Agarwal was trying to sneak in with the mobile. The incident has put the jail authorities on their toes.

One of the 13 accused in the 2G spectrum scam, Rajiv Agarwal, is an inmate of jail number 13. He was taken to the court on Friday morning for hearing. 

“In the evening when he returned from hearing, in a regular checking of the inmates before letting them inside the jail a phone was recovered from his possession,” said the jail's spokesperson Sunil Gupta.He added that jail number 1 Superintendent has started a probe in this action as per the rules.
