Mumbai: Six months after Oshiwara-based model Leena Kapoor accused cricket umpire Asad Rauf of sexually exploiting her after making false promises of marriage, she has decided to withdraw her complaint. (Mid-Day)
Kapoor on Tuesday stated at the Oshiwara police station that she had moved on in life. The Oshiwara police was directed to carry out investigations into the case after the Versova police gave a report to Deputy Commissioner of Police Pratap Dighavkar, stating that the location where the alleged crime occurred was under Oshiwara police’s jurisdiction.
The Oshiwara police officers said Kapoor was residing in Lokhandwala area at the time of the offence, which falls under their jurisdiction. On Tuesday, when the Oshiwara police called Kapoor to record her statement, she claimed that she did not want to pursue the case further.
Dilip Rupwate, senior police inspector of Oshiwara police station, said, “Kapoor has said she does not want to file any complaint, after which we did not register any case.” “I don’t have any complaints. I have been trying to get out of problems. I have lost a lot of things, including work, after the whole controversy. I don’t want any more controversies. I have no problems with Rauf and I have given this in writing to the police,” Kapoor said.
Earlier in August 14, 2012, Kapoor had submitted a written complaint against Rauf to DCP Dighavkar. In the complaint letter, she mentioned that she had met Rauf through a mutual friend in Sri Lanka in March, 2011. They exchanged numbers, and eventually started dating. She said that he promised to marry her and stayed with her, but later left her unceremoniously.
