Lucknow: Polling went off peacefully in 17 districts except a few sporadic incidents during the second phase of elections to Uttar Pradesh civic bodies polls on Wednesday.

Voter’s turn out remained 44 percent during this election. However, people of big cities seemed disinterested in this election; Polling could not take place in one of the wards after wrong names got circulated in voters’ list at Kanpur.

Stray incidents were reported at one of the booths of the city. As a result, state election commission has directed for re-polling at these booths on June 29. Also an enquiry has been ordered by SP crime and ADM to look into the incident that took place at one of the booths in Agra.

While talking to media, Election Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh SK Agrawal told reporters that polling was held for 163 local bodies at Bareilly, Agra, Kanpur City, Allahabad and Kanpur. He further said that a stone pelting incident took place at Kabir Inter College in which a CO got injured.

However, the police reached the scene and took situation under control. An independent candidate named Neckchandra from Garhi Chandni was arrested with his supporters for creating chaos. Voting percentage was pegged at 44 percent during the second phase election. Also there is no report of tampering with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from any part of the state.
