Modi also justified the protest roadshow planned by BJP in Varanasi on Thursday and urged party workers to maintain peace and tranquility in the holy city so that the common man is not pestered unnecessarily.

Modi also apologised to Mother Ganga for not being able to perform Aarti on Thursday. Taking a jibe at the Election Commission, he said that the concerned authorities should realize mother’s love is above politics.

“My profound apologies to Ganga Maa for not being able to perform Aarti today. Wish these people know that a Mother's love is above politics,” Modi tweeted on Thursday morning.

“I appeal to my Karyakarta sisters & brothers to maintain peace & ensure that people do not face any difficulty,” he added.

“It is unfortunate that EC is not concerned about the institution's neutrality & that is why our Karyakartas have to embark on a Satyagraha,” he further said.

In an interesting turn of events, Modi was on Wednesday denied permission to perform prayers at the banks of Ganga River in Varanasi, from where he is contesting Lok Sabha elections, by the Election Commission, which resulted in a miffed BJP deciding to hold protest roadshow in the holy city against the election watchdog.

Modi was also denied permission to hold two other events in Varanasi where he is facing stiff competition from Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal and Congress leader Ajay Rai.

Modi is scheduled to address a rally on Thursday afternoon on the suburbs of the city before going to the Banaras Hindu University.
