Modi shared a picture of Lord Buddha on Wednesday while greeting his followers and said the Buddhist deity has guided the entire humanity for centuries.

“On Buddha Purnima, we bow to the venerable Lord Buddha, whose teachings have guided the entire humanity for centuries,” Modi said on Twiter.

“We pledge our commitment to world peace, non-violence & service to humankind, ideals that were very close to Lord Buddha,” he added.

Buddha Purnima is the most sanctified festivals in Buddhism. Buddhists all around the world are celebrating this holy festival on Wednesday.

Alongside Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also greeted the nation on the sacred occasion of Buddha Purnima.
