The listing seeks to highlight the strengths and achievements of the higher education system in these five emerging economies to facilitate a comparison of their universities.

The "QS BRICS 2014" ranking was presented by Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani in the presence of Mohandas Pai, chairman of the Indian Centre for Assessment and Accreditation, an official release said.

Launched in 2013, the QS University Rankings- BRICS is designed to highlight the top universities in the five BRICS countries.

The project, developed by QS in collaboration with Russian news agency Interfax, emerged from a desire to highlight and track the progress made by each of the five BRICS countries in the higher education field and to facilitate comparison of universities in nations that share certain key socio-economic dynamics.
