According to the sources, the BJP top leadership as well as its ideological fountainhead Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are keen to appoint Shah as the saffron party chief.

Former Gujarat home minister Shah, who was also in-charge of BJP’s Uttar Pradesh campaign during LS polls, led the party to massive victory. The BJP bagged 73 out of 80 seats in the state.

Amid speculation over impending changes in the party after government formation, Union Home Minister and BJP president Rajnath Singh said discussions on appointment of his successor in the organisation were "still on".

He also announced that he will quit the party post soon keeping in view the party's principle of one-man-one-post.

Apart from Shah, party general secretaries JP Nadda and Om Prakash Mathur are also in the race for the top post.
