Kanpur: A 26-year-old girl on Monday attempted suicide outside the DIG's office in Kanpur over alleged police inaction regarding a molestation case filed by her against two youths, police said.

The girl slashed her wrist outside the office of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Amitabh Yash after she was unable to meet him despite waiting for hours. She wanted to complain to the DIG against the alleged police inaction regarding the molestation case lodged at Naubasta police station against two youths Ikaram and Sabir, they said.

The girl, in her complaint, has alleged that the duo had molested her while she was alone at her rented residence in Naubasta area in Kanpur. The incident caused a commotion at the DIG office and the girl was immediately rushed to hospital, they said, adding that her condition is reported to be serious. DIG Amitabh Yash, meanwhile, has ordered an inquiry into the matter.
