Bhopal: The Bhopal District Administration on Monday handed over the Rs 10 lakh found under the berth of Congress MP Sandeep Dikshit to his friend Jayesh Mathur.

A bag containing Rs 10 lakh was found in a first class railway coupe in which East Delhi MP Sandeep Dikshit and his wife Mona had travelled to Bhopal on Thursday.

Dikshit had said the bag belonged to his friend who was travelling in another compartment.

Attendant Bhagwan Das found the bag while checking the Bhopal Express coach around 8am, 30 minutes after Dikshit disembarked.

Defending himself Dikshit had said that neither the money nor the bag belonged to him and his friend Jayesh Mathur, who was travelling in another compartment, was the owner of the cash and he had kept it in his compartment for safety reasons.

Mathur, who is an architect by profession, had submitted an application with Govindpura SDM AS Pawar seeking the custody of the money. Following which, the SDM had sought a reply from the local police.

On Monday, after Mathur submitted all the relevant documents in this regard, SDM Powar handed over the amount to him.

Mathur has declared the money as the amount that his father received after retirement.
