Rewari: Blame it to the government sluggishness or insurance company’s negligence, but the systematic laxity in the functioning of Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna (RSBY) has failed to provide smart cards to more than 28, 000 BPL people in Rewari district of Haryana alone.

It should be noted that under RSBY, one can avail health services worth up to Rs 30, 000 in any private hospital registered with the RSBY panel by using smart cards. These smart cards are provided by the governments in collaboration with insurance companies.

In case of Rewari, a total of 51,759 people were to be given smart cards this year, but only 23, 641 people could get it.

However, RSBY nodal officer in Rewari district, A S Dahiya, told Jagran “Condition of RSBY functioning in his district is much better as Rewari stands at fourth position for better implementation.”

The slackness in providing smart cards has left 28, 118 BPL people in lurch as they would not be able to get the RSBY benefits this year.

As per the officials in the RSBY nodal office in the district, the last date of issuing the smart cards was June 8 and the issuance of more smart cards can now be done next year only.
